Clinical Study for Drotaverine HCl (NONOPA^(¢ç)) on Functional Disorders and Pain Caused by Spasm of the Smooth Muscles




Abstract
The purpose of this report is assessment of the clinical effectiveness and any possibility of untoward reactions of Drotaverine hydrochloride (NONOPA¢ç) in the application of internal medicine depai t dent for pains and functional disorders caused by spasms of the smooth muscles. Fifty nine patients (male: 32 patients, female: 27 patients) were plased on this study.
Their disease entities are gastro-duodenal disease (30 cases), cholelithiasis (24 cases) and renal :tone (5 cases). This study was done at the deportment of Internal Medicine, College of Medicine, Chungnam National University. Thirty nine patients were given Drotaverine hydrochloride and twenty patients were given Papaverine hydrochloride for pain control.
The effectiveness was assessed by the subjective decision in 5 different arbitrary levels; very excellent, excellent, good, fair and no effect.
The results were as follows;
1. The general effect of Drotaverine HCl for gastro-duodenal disease was very excellent in 6 cases (26.1%), excellent in 3 cases (13.0%) and good in 14 cases (60.9%), whole patients treated with Drotavf~rine HCI showed good responses. On the other hand, the general effects of Papaverine HC1 gastro-duoc enal disease was very excellent in 1 case (14.3%), excellent in 2 cases (28.6%) and good in 2 cases (28.3%), 5 cases in 7 cases (71.4%) treated with papaverine HCi showed good responses. The difference in two groups was significant (p<0.01).
2. The general effect of Drotaverine HCI for cholelithiasis was very excellent in 2 cases (15.4%), excel lent in 4 cases (30.8%) and good in 6 cases (46.2%). 12 cases of 13 cases (92.3%) treated with Drotaverine HCI showed good response. On the other hand, the general effect of papaverine HCI for cholelithiasis was very excellent in 1 case (9.1%), excellent in 3 cases (27.3%) and good in 5 cases (45.5%), 9 cases of 11 cases (81.8%) treated with papaverine HCi showed good responses.
